Observation #1

Site: A pond in Melody Ranch
Date: May 5, 2008
Time: 8:45
Temperature: 60 Degrees F
Weather: Partly cloudy with no wind
Soil: Moist in some areas and dry in others

The observation area is located in Melody Ranch, Jackson WY. It consists of a man made pond and is surrounded by evergreen trees. The water of the pond has been slowly decreasing because the water is stagnant and is evaporated into the air. This pond gives a home to many different organisms including bugs, frogs, birds, leaches and other animals. This provides a food chain. The Birds consume the frogs who then feed on the bugs who consume the very little vegetation near the pond. Around the pond there is a significant amount of dead mice and voles which could be the result of the four cats that live at my house. At the edges of the water lies heaps of scum which also feed many bugs. The only vegetation of the area includes evergreen trees, some small flora. I predict that my observation area will soon grow in vegetation. With that it will bring more animals to the area.
